In the Virgin Islands I overheard a couple talking. It was their first trip together. One said, "There's such a great sense of escape on an island, and you can't get lost." The other said, "I feel so lost on an island, there's no escape." I was thinking of the uninterrupted ocean, the circle of sand and rocks we would all be walking and how even though we all came over on the same ferry, we were each visiting our very own island.
